Our Veterinary Services
VACCINES AND PREVENTIVE MEDICINE
Emphasis on prevention is of utmost importance at Chelsea Animal Hospital. We would rather prevent disease than treat it. We provide both core and optional vaccines for dogs and cats. We recommend that all dogs receive canine distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, parainfluenza, bordetella, and rabies vaccinations. Core vaccines for cats include feline distemper, calicivirus, feline herpes, and rabies. Puppies should receive their first set of vaccines by six weeks of age, and kittens by eight weeks. We also offer optional vaccines such as leptospirosis, canine influenza, and feline leukemia.
We recommend annual wellness exams for dogs and cats between one and seven years old. Puppies, kittens, and senior pets should have more frequent examinations. At each check-up, we record your pet’s weight, ask about eating habits and exercise, and discuss parasite control. Our veterinarians will check for specific health issues, such as diabetes and signs of cancer, if needed. You also have the option of in house baseline blood work.
Your pet’s dental health is a good indicator of his or her overall well-being. We check the teeth and gums at every wellness exam to look for signs of infection or other dental problems. Regular professional cleaning is important to maintaining a healthy mouth. Under general anesthesia, we use an ultrasonic scaler to clean each tooth thoroughly, followed by a complete polishing. The need for extractions can be assessed and completed at this time.
When your pet needs medical attention for an illness or injury that requires surgery, we can be of service in most cases. We have a fully equipped surgical suite that allows us to perform many types of surgeries from tumor removals to routine spays and neuters. All patients are monitored using electronic equipment to track vital signs. Regardless of the type of surgery your pet needs, his or her veterinarian will let you know exactly what you can expect.
When it is necessary to leave your pets, we provide boarding for both dogs and cats. Our dog boarding areas are climate controlled, clean and well maintained. Our kennel staff provides individual attention and exercise to all pets in our care. We provide a nutritional dry food, but will gladly feed your pet any specialty diet and/or treats that you provide. Any necessary medications that need to be administered while your pet is on board can be accommodated.
Our cats are housed in a separate cat only environment. Our cat condos offer a quiet, clean environment complete with an outside view.
